At the beginning of September, first year Bachelor of Media Arts (Visual Arts) students showcased their recent visual narrative work in the famous ‘Comics and pizza’ session – an ever-popular Media Arts tradition. The event offers friends, family and staff an opportunity to enjoy the students’ efforts.
The visual styles of the comics ranged from watercolour sketches to collage to photographs. Content also varied, with some students creating work in a children’s book style, for instance, and others producing quirky, more experimental narratives. One student created a cover for the book out
of flattened soft drink cans.
While the pizza vanished quickly, the comics were devoured more slowly, with crowds lingering for over an hour and discussing their favourites.
‘I really enjoyed it,’ said one visiting graduate. ‘A couple of the books looked like they could be published already, they were great’.
Below is a small selection of images from the Visual Arts & Practice (C) class’ comics. We hope to add more images soon.
