A Hamilton Girl's High student sculpting for the Stop-Motion Animation course
The School of Mediarts has been busier than usual over the recent mid-semester break, offering STAR Taster courses for secondary school students in a number of creative areas. During June, senior students from around the Waikato region attended short courses in Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Introduction to Video Editing, Video Production, Life Drawing, Screenwriting and Stop-Motion Animation.
These courses aim to offer students a taste of tertiary study and the Media Arts environment. Feedback from the students has been positive, with many appreciating the opportunity to try something new and improve their creative skills.
STAR has been available to secondary schools since 1996 and its main purpose is to assist senior secondary school students in finding suitable pathways into work or further study at secondary or tertiary level. For enquiries about Wintec STAR courses, see the Wintec STAR/Gateway website page.
